How does Art Therapy work?

A place to learn adversity and symptoms
are not you, a place to recover and heal

Art Therapy Way in Delaware

Art Therapy is a clinical mental health treatment that allows clients and groups of all ages a way to easily explore mental health symptoms, the nature and impact of trauma, important life experiences, self-relationship, other relationships, and personal strengths. Considering their therapeutic imagery, clients relate their story, express and contain symptoms, practice outcomes, and heal.

Art therapy creates a 'visual voice' to foster direct access to feelings & to improve processing and distancing skills. Client artwork yields useful diagnostic information about individuals’ developmental, behavioral, cognitive, mental and emotional styles, abilities, and mental health needs. A licensed, a registered, or a Board-certified Art Therapist typically trains 8 years to provide Art Therapy services. Ultimately, Art Therapy promotes overall emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing in a close, collaborative therapeutic relationship. Jennifer's therapeutic style allows clients to recover, practice, and learn in the moment for personal relevance, meaning, and effectiveness.

Clients may need help with complex trauma, grief loss, mood disorders, substance use disorders, anxiety, behavioral disorders, self-concept, psychosis, adjusting to change, and the longterm impact of adversity such as personal or community violence,
for example.

For individuals who work to manage symptoms associated with pervasive developmental disorders, autism spectrum disorders, or learning disabilities, Clinical Art Therapy offers a place to organize a complex, confusing world, bridges communication styles and promotes overall sensory integration.

Art Therapy is offered in some medical facilities to ease physical and psychological stress before and after procedures in aid of healing.

Individuals in crisis can safely express intense experiences very candidly in artwork; for some, this helps avoid consequences of enacting experiences behaviorally and fosters effective outcome practicing of more useful approaches.

All sessions are tailored specifically for each individual's/group's particular needs to promote overall expression, progress and self-reliance.
